When I came to the UK, my English wasn’t the best. Even though I had completed my A-levels, I struggled with slang, especially the Welsh accent. Volunteering at Swansea Bay Regional Equality Council helped me improve my English and complete my NVQs Level 3 in Customer Service and Business Management.
While I was looking for extra income, I joined Mrs Buckét in June 2010 as a cleaner in a small team of two. My first manager was so supportive that I aspired to do the same one day. Although I started another paid job as a Development Officer, I stayed with Mrs Buckét, balancing both jobs. After the Development Officer role ended, I focused on my skills, completing my HNC, HND, and degree in Business and Management at Swansea University.
During my degree, I became a mum but still managed to complete my assignments on time and progress to an Integrated Master’s. That’s when I wanted to share my skills and knowledge more widely. I applied for an administrative role at Mrs Buckét and was soon promoted to Area Manager – a role I still proudly hold today.
Balancing work and family often means adjusting, especially for women. Being part of Mrs Buckét brings me great joy and fulfilment. Over my 14 years with the company, Rachael’s leadership and dedication have shown me how women and mothers can achieve remarkable success through vision and commitment.
